The Picard Center for Child Development has begun preparations for the fifth year implementing an early childhood quality-monitoring program for those sites participating in the Act 3 Community Network Program in Louisiana. Act 3 was signed into law in 2012 as a plan to establish a statewide Birth to five network with uniform standards of readiness and coordination of services with other state agencies. The CLASS-ACT team consists of over forty early childhood consultants conducting Classroom Assessment Scoring System (CLASS) observations in early childhood settings across the state of Louisiana including public schools, Head Start, and private daycare centers.

CLASS is used to evaluate the effectiveness of teacher- child interactions in toddler and PreK classrooms. Since 2013, the Picard Center conducted 8,496 total CLASS observations including 10% of all observations are shadow observations.  This summer, The CLASS-ACT team is recruiting, training, planning and preparing for the 2017-18 year. The CLASS-ACT observation kickoff will occur in mid-September of 2017.
