The Picard Center operates under the belief that the more we know about the world around us, the more we can make a difference.

From one-time cash donations and naming opportunities to bequests and gift annuities, your generosity provides a continuing source of stability for the Picard Center’s research and mission of improving Louisiana by focusing on its children.

Through high-quality research, the Picard Center continuously makes vital discoveries that critically affect decision-making and public policy for early childhood education and healthy lifespan development in Acadiana, Louisiana, and the nation.

Your gifts of financial support will assist us in maintaining a margin of excellence to recruit and retain the finest research staff and provide critical funding for pilot programs across the state.

If you have a vested interest in the well-being of Louisiana’s children, whether it is discovering research-driven solutions to decrease the childhood obesity rate in Louisiana or finding answers to lift the increasing number of children in Louisiana out of poverty, you’ve come to the right place.

Discover ways you can help and change the lives of thousands of Louisiana’s children through high-quality data decision making.

Securities

While many donors commonly make cash gifts, a growing number are taking advantage of contributing gifts of long-term appreciated securities to support the research goals of the Picard Center.

Some advantages of giving securities include:

  • Receiving an income tax deduction based on the market value of the security at the time of the gift.
  • Avoiding capital gains tax on the appreciated value of the securities.
  • Potentially receiving a greater income by funding a life income gift.

If you are interested in donating stocks and bonds, closely-held stock, or mutual fund shares to the Picard Center, please contact the UL Foundation at 337-482-0700 for additional details.

Planned Giving

Planned giving is the process of planning one’s charitable giving over one’s lifetime, as well as giving after one’s life, such as in the form of bequests and life insurance policies.

Charitable giving is a vital component to many estate plans for individuals who want to leave a legacy, increase current income, and minimize estate and income taxes.

The most common type of planned gift is a bequest in an individual’s will or trust. While we encourage consulting your attorney for specific legal language, we can provide sample language for unrestricted and restricted bequests.

Please contact the UL Foundation at 337-482-0700 to discuss other types of planned giving to the Picard Center, such as:

  1. Life income agreements – charitable gift annuity and charitable remainder trust
  2. Retirement plan designations
  3. Life insurance
  4. Real estate gifts

In-Kind Gifts

In-kind gifts are donated tangible and intangible assets and property. Examples include real estate, artwork, limited partnership interest, equipment, books, inventory, royalty or copyright interests, notes and mortgages, and other physical assets that represent value to the Picard Center.
