Dr. Raymond Biggar completes study, releases report on problem gambling in Louisiana

The primary goal of the study is to examine the prevalence of legalized gambling, its patterns in Louisiana, and the demographic or sociocultural characteristics of potential problem or pathological gamblers. The report provides information on the magnitude of problem and pathological gambling in Louisiana, as well the available services and the state’s capacity to meet the needs of the at-risk population.

Mini-grant gets positive response

Dr. Paula Zeanah developed and hosted Wrap Your Arms Around Reading, a mini-grant project funded by Project LAUNCH. This 3-session educational program for new parents and new infants (0-6 months of age) incorporated research that demonstrates the powerful impact of the early parent-infant relationship on brain development and the child’s long term development, and research that shows how early parent-infant reading can boost young children’s cognitive and academic skills.

CLASS project has another successful year

The Picard Center for Child Development has begun preparations for the fifth year implementing an early childhood quality-monitoring program for those sites participating in the Act 3 Community Network Program in Louisiana. Act 3 was signed into law in 2012 as a plan to establish a statewide Birth to five network with uniform standards of readiness and coordination of services with other state agencies.
